Because signs and symptoms of the condition can take years or decades to show up, and can affect family members differently even when they carry the same gene change, a relative may seem completely healthy for a long time without realizing they have it. This is why genetic testing and regular heart checkups can matter for close relatives, even if they feel fine.
In some cases, though, the gene change happens on its own in the child and isn't inherited from a parent. When that's the case, the risk to other family members is very low (<1%). A genetic counselor can explain which situation applies to your family.

Our understanding of genetic variants improves over time. A variant that's uncertain today may later be reclassified as disease-causing or as harmless, as more research and data become available. It's also worth knowing that the course can depend somewhat on the specific gene change involved — ask your care team whether anything is known about your family's particular variant. Here is a general sense of what families can encounter:
Infancy & early childhood: A diagnosis this early is uncommon. A small number of case reports describe severe variants causing serious heart problems in the first months of life, but this is the far end of the severity spectrum, not a typical experience. Some infants are picked up after a routine checkup finds a heart murmur.
Childhood: For many children, the first signs are changes to the heart's electrical rhythm noticed on routine ECG. Some children also begin to show mild heart muscle thickening during these years.
